X-382 mk2

A lovely X-382 from 1999 with many new features, including a new engine and a new jib. A powerful sailor in a relatively manageable size.

The X-382 from Danish X-Yachts is one of the models that really put the shipyard on the map. A little sister to the X-412 and, like her big sister, one of the models that defined the ‘cruiser-racer’ designation for well-built sailing boats that perform equally well on the racing course and for family sailing. Just like all boats from Niels Jeppesen’s drawing board, the X-382 sails with a wonderfully positive feel. Naturally, the boat is also fast. The slender masthead rig is ingenious in many ways, and with a high ballast ratio, the boat’s sail plan can be adapted for a wide variety of sailing conditions. This X-382 is sailed with a mainsail and a modern North 3Di Ocean NorDac max jib, providing sufficient sail area for good speed and feel, whilst remaining a sail plan that is easier to handle for a smaller crew.

The X-382 is a well-built boat. From the integrated steel structure that absorbs all loads from the keel and rig to the fine interior joinery. The interior of this boat is the ‘modern’ layout, i.e. with a longitudinal galley and three cabins. The toilet is located forward of the mast, easily accessible from the forward owner’s cabin.

The X-382 has a pleasant cockpit, both under sail and in harbour. All fittings and equipment are correctly sized and of good quality.

In many ways, the X-382 is a model that was ahead of its time: beautiful, well-proportioned and spacious below deck, with a substantial keel weight ratio and a tall, elegant rig. This is a combination that is difficult to achieve. Hats off to Niels Jeppesen and the team at X-Yachts at the time.
