Nordship 29

Nordship 29 from 1991. The upgraded version of the Nordship 28 from the designers Elvstrøm & Kjærulf.

Nordship 29 is the updated version of the Nordship 28 the first true centre cockpit boat designed by the notorious designers Elvstrøm and Kjærulf in the mid eighties.


The Nordship 29 is relatively light and can sail when other boats are still motoring but, is fine and safe in rough weather too.  

What initially made this boat a success was the centre cockpit design at a price many people could afford at the time. On small boats forepeaks are rarely comfortable for sleeping and generally you would have to make up the bed in the saloon each night. On this boat this is not necessary. The rear cabin is very comfortable with two single full length berths (which can be made into a double with an insert cushion). The aft cabin is the perfect place for off watch crew as you can easily look out and see what is going on and, if necessary, be on deck in a second.

Despite the aft cabin taking up space, there is still plenty of locker space and certainly enough space for long term cruising on board. The full cover canopy also allows for a very comfortable living space in wet weather and even when cruising under engine.

The build quality is excellent with all the fittings seemingly one size up from what you would expect on a boat this size - it is built like a Volvo! Most owners will tell you nothing has ever broken and they have never been let down. Despite initially being promoted as a motor sailor, the motor is relatively small, but will push you along at 6-7 knots in calm conditions.

The saloon is cosy with space enough for a full crew around the saloon table. The heads are spacious for a boat this size and positioned right where you want it, just down the companionway. The cabin seems to keep an even, cool temperature, even in hot weather. The pantry holds a three burner cooker and oven and a relatively large fridge and sufficient stowage room for all utilities.

Previous and present owners have kept her well and added the odd update whenever needed.
