Malö 38

Malö 38, a classic from the Malö shipyard in Kungsviken on Orust. This 1989 model was purchased by the current owner from the Malö shipyard in 2004 and has been well looked after ever since. Here is an opportunity to acquire a true classic in excellent condition.

The Malö 38 is now a true classic from the Malö shipyard. Sail far, sail near – this boat sets no limits. This 1989 38 has been under the same ownership since 2004 and, like most Malö boats, has been lovingly cared for. The current owner purchased the boat from Malövarvet in Kungsviken after it was taken as a trade-in. This Malö 38, no. 170, has three cabins and is in excellent condition.

Just like many other Malös, the 38 has a deep and well-protected cockpit. The layout with the Targa arch, which serves as a mount for the mainsheet and as part of the sprayhood, provides a clean and safe cockpit and in addition giving the sprayhood a very stable platform. The interior is in the finest Orust boatbuilding tradition, where Malö enjoys a well-deserved reputation for excellence. In many ways, a mahogany boat interior does not get any nicer than this. Overall, this is a very stable and well-built boat that has proven itself on all the world’s seas. You can, of course, sail far in any boat, but it is a far better experience in a Malö.

The three-cabin layout offers great flexibility; it comfortably and safely accommodates anything from a single person to three couples on board, or a family with several children, or an experienced couple who can take both children and grandchildren on a trip.

The boat is very well equipped from the outset and underwent a thorough overhaul at the Malö shipyard following the trade-in before being sold on to the current owner. A number of updates have been carried out recently, including new awnings in 2025, a new toilet in 2024, and a new Garmin plotter (820xs) in 2018, including a new echo sounder, the Echomap CV, in 2018. This is in addition to all the standard amenities, including hot and cold running water, heating, a fully equipped galley with a hob and oven, a bathroom with a new toilet and shower, and so on.
