The Hallberg-Rassy 54 is likely one of the most elegant Rassy boats ever launched. This HR 54 has essentially had two owners since it was new, with the current owner taking possession in 2021. It is an exceptionally well-maintained and thoroughly updated boat, featuring featuring among other updates, a “stern thruster,”. A HR 54 in stellar condition.

The Hallberg-Rassy 54 replaced the successful Hallberg-Rassy 53 in 2006. The HR 54 introduced a significantly more modern design, resulting in better interior volume and improved performance through the water. The model features a free-hanging spade rudder that is nearly as deep as the keel. The entire boat exudes a focus on sailing, offering increased speed for longer daily distances, enhanced sailing pleasure, and outstanding safety on both short and long passages.

A little anecdote from 2007: I was sailing an X-119 along the Swedish south coast, confident I was one of the fastest boat on the water. In the distance, I saw what I thought was a Hallberg-Rassy catching up. What?! When it finally caught up, I realized it was a Hallberg-Rassy 54 being sailed by a single person.

This story is quite typical of Hallberg-Rassy and perhaps more widely recognized today than it was in 2007. While it’s certainly no racing boat, its sailing capabilities are far better than many expect—especially with a small crew, as demonstrated by class victories in longer passages like the ARC (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers).

Below deck, you’ll find everything and more: a thoughtfully designed layout with a single-level floor throughout the boat, plenty of space, excellent headroom, fantastic cabins, a large galley, a navigation station worthy of a serious ocean cruiser, a walk-in engine room, and a very spacious saloon featuring the renowned “Rassy armchairs.” Additionally, this Hallberg-Rassy 54 includes a “centre-line-settee,” making seating around the saloon table more comfortable while also improving safety when moving forward in the saloon when underway in a sea-way.

The owner’s cabin aft features a large centre-line double berth, a private bathroom with a separate shower, a dedicated office space/vanity, and plenty of storage throughout the cabin. Forward of the mast, there is another cabin with a double berth, referred to by Hallberg-Rassy as the “super cabin.” Further forward is a cabin with a more traditional V-berth. Forward of the mast, there is also a spacious bathroom with a separate shower and a washing machine in its own dedicated space.

The interior of this Hallberg-Rassy 54 is elegantly finished in the optional teak. The equipment list is extensive, with many recent updates—see the separate equipment list via the link above. Combined with large tanks for both diesel and water, this boat offers the ability to remain self-sufficient at sea for extended periods without needing to visit a harbour. This is ideal whether you are cruising along the coasts or venturing to more distant waters.

Thanks to Hallberg-Rassy’s “push-button sailing” concept, which on this Hallberg-Rassy 54 includes hydraulic sail handling and electric winches, the boat can easily be handled by a single person. A robust main engine, along with both a bow thruster and a stern thruster—somewhat unique for this model—ensures safe maneuvering in marinas. The two-speed Gori propeller provides excellent thrust for maneuvering and increased range during calm-weather motoring. Together, all these features offer a sense of freedom, joy, and safety that is hard to match. It’s difficult to imagine what more you could wish for.
