Bavaria 49 from 2003 that has recently been thoroughly updated for longer trips and/or live aboard.

The Bavaria 49 is a large sailing yacht, designed by renowned J&J. The model was popular both with private owners who wanted the size and space in the efficient Bavaria design, as well as a popular yacht used by the charter fleets. This Bavaria 49 started its life in a charter fleet, was acquired by its current owner in Croatia in 2019. The boat was then in Swedish, private ownership. The boat was then transported to Sweden by land.

This 2003 Bavaria 49 Cruiser includes spacious accommodation for 8 persons in 4 separate cabins, 79 hp Volvo Penta TMD22 diesel engine, and easy to handle in-mast furling fractional rig. An opportunity to acquire a fully prepared blue water cruising yacht. Comprehensive refit recently carried out, with the emphasis being on short-handed, long distance, passage-making, as well as living on board for extended periods.

Recent upgrades include new batteries, inverter, solar panels, wind generator, Brig 330 RIB, 9.9hp outboard motor, s/s ‘A’ frame incorporating tender davits, sails, sprayhood, bimini cover, carpets, DSC VHF radio, autopilot, WiFi router and Raymarine electronics package including radar, GPS / chart plotter, AIS, wind instruments and speed / depth sounder.

In its current ownership, she has been sailed down to the English Channel and the channel islands, among them Guernsey. When arriving in Guernsey, the arrival in the fishing harbour rather than the leisure marina, had the boat come aground when the tide went out. A bit of an unlucky surprise, but having the lucky effect of the boat being put on the hard, thoroughly inspected, having the keel come off, and having the keel structure re-laminated in the “old fashion” way, making the yacht stronger than when new relying on glued inner-liner.

Live-aboard is made more pleasant by having a furnace, clad in soapstone, making the heating and comfort below work great in combination with the diesel heater, also in less-than-ideal climates. The furnace is solidly installed, also for rough weather sailing.

If you are planning a longer trip in comfort, or contemplating a live-aboard life, this is a yacht to put on your list to check out.
