Brokerage of pre-owned boats . What is really going on?
The 2025 boating season is slowly coming to an end as we move into November. For us at Båtagent, autumn has – as usual – been a busy period of boat brokerage at full speed. Many beautiful boats have found new, happy owners who are now eagerly waiting for the 2026 season to begin.
Summer 2025, as always, was a mix of strong winds, lots of rain, but also a fantastic high-pressure period in July with plenty of sun and temperatures reaching over 30 degrees in the air, and up to 24 degrees in the water – or even more in some places. The autumn was also very pleasant, at least at times, which made for a long boating season.
At the same time, the world around us is far from calm and orderly. “High pressure” perhaps, if you mean it can explode anywhere, anytime. There’s unrest all around us – wars, strange leadership, and general behavior that fuels confusion and anxiety. This is often seen as a situation where boat sales might slow down. Or perhaps it’s the opposite – that all the uncertainty makes people long for the freedom and peace that comes with owning and spending time on their own boat? A refuge and sanctuary from the madness of the world?
The fact is, it’s far from easy to explain buying behavior when it comes to luxury products like leisure boats. What we can see is that it doesn’t follow the usual simple economic models.
This is clearly reflected in Båtagent’s results so far in 2025. Even though some segments of the used-boat market have slowed down, others continue at the same or even an increasing pace.
Many people try to explain market movements and buyer behavior, often with little more than loosely grounded opinions. The best measure, as always, is actual results. A strong indicator here is that Båtagent maintains the same pace as in 2024 – nearly 200 boats sold per year, with a total value of around SEK 250 million. This is an increase compared to the levels we had between 2021 and 2023. The year 2020 was an exception – a “pandemic effect,” we might say – when we reached a similar level to where we are now. Growth is never a perfectly smooth, upward-sloping line. 😊
This level is not something we take for granted. It’s clearly the result of a combination of good boats, good sellers, good buyers, and very good brokers. We remain both proud and grateful for this and look forward to 2026 with joy and enthusiasm.
