Choose an agent who
…is good at marketing .
Båtagent conducts ongoing marketing by advertising on platforms throughout Europe, to achieve maximum exposure of the boats we sell. We focus strongly on giving the boats professional exposure on websites and in social media.
…has strong commitment and drive.
Båtagent is 100% committed to every boat it is entrusted with selling. We are not distracted by new boat agencies or other marine activities.
…gives you full access to your boat.
Båtagent gives you access to your boat during the sales period because we conduct viewings in the place where it is located. This also reduces unnecessary footfall onboard the boat. We only carry out in-person viewings for serious prospective buyers.
…offers you favourable terms and conditions.
Båtagent’s motto is ‘no cure – no pay’. This means that you, the seller, only pay after we have delivered a result. If you want to cancel the brokerage assignment before we find a buyer for your boat, you pay nothing; we assume the risk.
…with strong expertise.
Båtagent’s agents are experienced boaters with extensive knowledge in most aspects of boat ownership, boat sales and technical matters related to boats. Our brokers also have advanced sales experience from other industries and can guide you safely through the process.
Quality-assured work procedures for maximum security.
The Båtagent method
1. Initial meeting
Presentation | Review of the boat | Market valuation | Brokerage contract | List of questions
At our first meeting, we will meet at the boat, which will be located at your dock or winter storage throughout the entire sales process. This gives us the opportunity to get to know the boat and go through the commission agreement together.
2. Sales preparation
Fact-finding | Cleaning and reconditioning | Photography | Creating optimal conditions for presentation of your boat
Once a commission agreement is established and we formally start the task, we are ready to photograph the boat. Good pictures are essential for successful marketing, so we invest significant effort to achieve the best possible results.
You will also help us compile a list of all the equipment included in the sale. It’s important to note any equipment you know is not functioning. Before we publish the advertisement, you will have the opportunity to review and approve it to ensure all information about the boat is correct.
3. Marketing preparation
Advertising on Boatagent.com, Blocket.se, Scanboat.com, Boat24.com, theYachtMarket.com. | Exhibitions | Trade magazines.
Through powerful advertising on multiple digital platforms, we reach everyone in Europe who is searching for a boat like yours. We are proud of our website, Båtagent.se, where approximately a quarter of our buyers find their boat. We also frequently appear at fairs and in boating magazines throughout Northern Europe. Furthermore, we are active on social media, including hundreds of thousands of views on our presentation videos on YouTube.
4. Sales
In-person viewings with proactive, expert agents. | Create a great viewing experience | Price negotiation
Customers interested in your boat will contact us directly. Your local broker handles all customer contact and shows the boat on-site. We only book personal viewings with serious prospects to ensure minimal wear on your boat. Our brokers are knowledgeable and can often answer many questions immediately with the information you’ve provided, but sometimes we may need your help to answer specific queries about your boat.
We will always inform you when we receive an offer, even if it is below the listed price. Typically, we have about 3-6 showings of the boat before closing the deal.
5. Contract
Contract signing | The buyer pays a deposit to the client account
After we have made an agreement with a buyer and closed the deal, a purchase agreement must be drafted. Our contracts are carefully prepared by lawyers to ensure the security of all parties involved. As you and the buyer often live in different locations, the agreement is signed digitally.
Once the agreement is signed, the buyer pays a deposit into an escrow account.
6. Inspection
Inspections on land and on sea carried out by an impartial inspector | Resolving of any issues raised in the inspection report
The next step is to hire an impartial inspector to conduct an inspection of the boat. The inspection is performed to ensure that the boat is in the condition described and to identify any unknown defects that need addressing.
As the seller, you will arrange and pay for lifting the boat for the inspection, which is conducted both on land and in the water. All equipment on board is tested, so it’s crucial that batteries are charged when the inspector arrives.
After the inspection, any issues identified may need to be addressed. The boat must be delivered in working condition as per the description the buyer received through the equipment list and advertisement.
7. Delivery
Final payment through client account | Review on delivery | Follow-up
Once the inspection is complete and the boat is ready, the final step is delivery. The buyer pays the remaining amount into the escrow account, and then we meet at the boat for a formal delivery. During the delivery, we execute a final sales agreement indicating that the boat has changed ownership and you, as the seller, receive a settlement statement detailing the transactions on the escrow account and deducting our commission. The delivery also provides an opportunity for you to give the buyer a walkthrough of the boat.
Frequently Asked Questions for a Yacht Broker
We take care of the entire brokerage process and handle everything from customer contact to contract signing and marketing your boat. Your part is to ensure the boat is clean and tidy when we take photographs and when customers come to view it. Here are a few tips:
1. Remove personal items so the boat doesn’t look cluttered. You are, of course, welcome to use the boat during the sales process, but remember that it needs to look presentable when customers come to inspect it.
2. Clean the toilet and galley (kitchen) extra thoroughly to ensure there are no unpleasant odors and that it doesn’t look overly used.
3. Remember that the buyer views your boat as a “new” boat, even if it is pre-owned. Just like when you enter a car showroom to look at a new car – it should be clean and smell fresh.
In connection with the sale, a marine survey (inspection) is usually conducted, and there are a few things to keep in mind. The points below are common remarks that are good to check beforehand:
1. Check that fire extinguishers and gas hoses are up to date.
2. Go over all seacock valves on the hull fittings and ensure they can be opened and closed easily.
3. Take the boat for a test run and operate the engine at full throttle for at least 5 minutes to ensure it doesn’t overheat. If the engine runs hot at full RPM, it indicates that the cooling system may need cleaning.
Are you considering whether to sell your boat privately or via a boat broker? There are pros and cons to both, but the short answer is that boats with a value exceeding approximately SEK 600,000 are best sold through a yacht broker, while boats of lower value can often be sold advantageously privately. Since a broker always charges a commission upon sale, hiring one can become expensive if the boat’s market value is too low. Selling a boat privately naturally involves more work for you as a seller and carries a higher risk during large transactions.
Selling your boat through a yacht broker ensures a more secure process and significant time savings for you as a seller. At Båtagent, we utilize a well-proven sales method that ensures secure transactions, solid contracts, and powerful marketing that reaches a wider audience than a private individual can achieve. Unlike a private seller, we can also offer financing to the buyer. Additionally, the buyer enjoys greater security under consumer protection laws and can receive assistance with delivery, insurance, and more.

The commission includes all costs required for marketing and sales: images, text, advertisements, space on our own and third parties’ advertising websites, assistance with contracts, conducting viewings, etc. You pay nothing if we do not sell your boat according to the time frame and terms and conditions we have agreed on.
